2 minutes to understand User eXperience (UX) and User Interface (UI)

UX (User eXperience) and UI (User Interface) represent 2 terms that are often confused. Why ? Simply because both contribute to the creation of an optimized website, game or mobile application. These two terms concern everything that may involve an interaction with an Internet user and thus, they cannot be separated if you want to optimize the omnichannel experience of your customers.

UX and UI are complementary. They do not designate the same thing and above all, they have different roles.

What is UI? How does this differ from UX?

When we talk about UX, we are talking about an approach that brings together the UI and other elements such as the content, architecture, ergonomics of a site, etc. Implicitly therefore, a User Interface issue is also a User eXperience issue.

  • User Interface

The UI is the visible part of the experience. In other words, the UI is a medium, an interface that represents the direct link between the user on the one hand and the product on the other. The purpose of the UI is to take into account the needs and expectations of Internet users in terms of access to information and thus to offer and allow their consultation in a simple and intuitive way.

The User Interface is what binds the human (the users) and the machine. Its purpose is to propose an interface design to improve all interactions. For this, it is a question of creating a functional, intuitive and efficient interface. But it is also about inspiring trust and arousing emotion and actions of commitment on the part of individuals.

  • User Experience

UX consists of visible elements (UI) but also invisible elements. Indeed, UX is more rooted in the emotional aspect and in the overall experience experienced by individuals throughout the process. In order for the user experience to be optimal, it is a question of optimizing (among other things) the UI. In other words, intuitive navigation must be offered, as well as simple usability.

In order to work on improving the customer experience, you must first analyze your users. Who are they ? What browsing behavior do they have? In what context are they looking for you? Get to know the needs and expectations so that you can then perfectly meet the demand.

UI and UX are therefore two inseparable elements in creating an optimal user experience. The UI is in a way a tool used by individuals in order to have a pleasant omnichannel experience. The User Interface is a means allowing optimal navigation and research on a website. It thus contributes to the creation of a fluid experience.
