Management in the digital age

The digital transformation of companies changes the way of working of all the actors within it. The management of the teams and therefore also, to be completely rethought since the hierarchical relations within the companies are called into question.

The very example of changes linked to management can be observed within innovative companies, companies in the web sector, start-ups, etc. Within these organisations, managers are no longer “above the others”. It allows each member of the team to flourish by guiding them in their respective tasks and roles.

At present, a manager must absolutely be the link between the different members of a team and above all humanize the work. In other words, he must ensure that everyone can carry out the tasks which fall to him quite freely (in the way of doing things for example). The manager's objective is also to empower the various members of the team so as to make them gain in autonomy. The result will be all the more appreciated. Finally, the role of the manager is to make all the parts of the company communicate, in a transparent way. This also consists in letting each member express himself.

What are the qualities of the “new” manager?

The "new" management allows each individual within a company to take responsibility by having a specific role, missions, objectives, means and methods. This management is a considerable departure from the method signs which consisted of managing with an iron fist and having unfailing authority and control.

The aim is to make the workplace a place of self-expression, where individuals feel part of a group. In this sense, more freedom is left to each member of the team, which allows each of them to have a certain power within the company.

The “new” manager is thus a person who values the members of his team by making sure that everyone develops (upskilling). The manager must also promote team spirit and collaboration. He must believe in everyone's ability to take responsibility. Finally, a manager must promote exchanges and feedback between all team members and thus ensure that respectful communication takes place. All of these elements will ensure that an environment conducive to work is developed. When an employee feels good at work, this makes it possible to increase productivity and avoid a set of deviant behaviors such as work stoppages, bad atmosphere, hypocrisy, etc.

Currently, management is changing. It allows many more spaces of freedom. The challenge then lies in combining this with strong objectives and requirements. Have you tested new management techniques? Let us know!
